Join the Doctor Who Bar

Would you like to host & take part in the DWBar?

Hi everybody are you passionate about Doctor Who & like nothing better than sitting down to watch the show?

Here at the Doctor Who Bar we like nothing better than watching a good Doctor Who adventure & tweeting about the story on Twitter.

So if you love Doctor Who and would like to be involved with the Doctor Who Bar please drop us a line.

Currently our sessions are on Saturday & on Wednesday, 8.45pm open & pressing play at 9pm.

The Bar is currently recruiting for new members to host these sessions.  Currently there are only two active members, myself @Via_The_Void & @Jessique77, both of us also have other matters of life to get on with which takes up our time & means that we can't always be available to host the sessions, which is quite understandable.

So if you would be interested in joining the Doctor Who Bar to host the sessions, either DM myself @Via_The_Void on twitter or @Jessique77.  You can also DM the main account @TheDoctorWhoBar, or alternatively send a tweet using the hashtag #DWBarHost.  You can also submit articles on the Doctor Who Bar blogger site as well.

Please bear in mind that we are looking for people who can work as part of a team, as some previous members seem incapable of doing this!  We are looking for people who genuinely love Doctor Who & love to watch it.  So if this sounds like you, please get in touch with us. :-)

Doctor Who Deep Breath Airdate

The BBC has confirmed the  BBC One transmission time for the opening episode of series eight, the feature length Deep Breath.

When the Doctor lands the TARDIS in Victorian London, he finds more than he bargains for.  A dinosaur running rampant in the Thames & a spate of deadly spontaneous combustions.   What on Earth is going on?  Could it be an Invasion of the Dinosaurs!?
Who is the new Doctor & will he & Clara’s friendship survive as they embark on a terrifying journey which takes them into the heart of an alien conspiracy? The Doctor has indeed changed. It’s time you knew Who he is!

Deep Breath will be Peter Capaldi's first full episode as the Doctor, which will air on Saturday 23rd August, at 7.50pm, finishing around 9.10pm.  It will also be transmitted on BBC One HD.  Deep Breath has been written by Executive Producer & Head Writer Steven Moffat & has been directed by Ben Wheatley.

We hope you enjoy the opening episode as Doctor Who makes it's long awaited return to BBC One.

And here it is:

Doctor Who is back!

The BBC has released the date for the return of our favourite television series.

Doctor Who will return on Saturday 23rd August, 2014.

This will be the first full series to star Peter Capaldi & it is believed there will be a special cameo from the departed Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith.  It will again star Jenna Coleman as Clara.  The first episode is to be a feature length opener called Deep Breath.

The New Series will be Eighth since the show returned in 2005, but it is also series Thirty Four since the show debuted back in the 23rd November, 1963, & it is very fitting that this latest series is going out on the 23rd, albeit it is August & not November!

So stay tuned everyone, the wait is nearly over, but here's a little something to whet your appetite.

Derek Martinus

It was not that long ago we reported the death of Christopher Barry.

Now we have to report the sad passing of Derek Martinus at the age of 82.

To Doctor Who fans he will be remembered for directing for the 1st 3 Doctors, he also was the director on the first Cyberman story and also was the 1st director for Doctor Who in colour.

The stories Derek directed were: Galaxy Four, The Tenth Planet, The Evil of the Daleks, The Ice Warriors & Spearhead from Space.

He also directed a couple of Blakes 7 episodes and over 50 episodes of Z Cars amongst his other credits.

We will pay tribute to Derek Martinus in the Doctor Who Bar soon.

Christopher Barry

The Doctor Who Bar sadly reports that former Doctor Who director Christopher Barry has died at the age of 88.

He may be remembered best for being the 1st person to direct the Daleks but he directed many other Doctor Who stories in the 60's and 70's these stories were:

William Hartnell:  The Daleks (Not episodes 3 & 6), The Rescue, The Romans, The Savages.
Patrick Troughton:  The Power of the Daleks.
Jon Pertwee: The Dæmons, The Mutants.
Tom Baker:  Robot, The Brain of Morbius, The Creature from the Pit.

Christopher had previously stated of all these Stories his favourite was The Dæmons.

We would like to invite to you all to join us as we pay tribute to Christopher Barry with The Dæmons on Saturday 15th February.  The Doctor Who Bar opens at 9:15pm and we press play at 9:30pm.  Please join in by watching your VHS or DVD and use the #DWBar Hashtag.

We hope to see you then.

R.I.P. Christopher Barry.

Let's Get The Captain America Movie Sequel To Feature Doctor Who!

The latest Marvel movie blockbuster Captain America: The Winter Soldier could feature the hit TV series  Doctor Who and Sherlock when it arrives in the UK and Ireland screens in March this year.

After his sixty-year coma following the events seen in Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America (also known as Steve Rogers) will be adapting to life in the 21st century. A scene will occur, featuring Rogers' scrapbook, with notes filled with the news he has missed out on during his spell in a coma. Now comes the exciting bit for lovers of the hit television series Sherlock and more importantly Doctor Who!

Captain America will have missed plenty of amazing TV in his comatose absence - so the Radio Times Magazine have created a poll which will help him decide which great British & Irish TV could be featured in the very special scene. Hopefully the BBC's flagship sci-fi series Doctor Who (what else could it be!), Sherlock, and many other TV hits making the poll could be included.  This is a great opportunity for fans to help their favourite programme feature in a massive blockbuster motion picture!

For example, there could be a picture of the Eleventh Doctor (played by Matt Smith) & Clara (Jenna Coleman) on their travels in the TARDIS, or even Sherlock (actor Benedict Cumberbatch) & John Watson  (Martin Freeman) discovering a mystery - there are endless possibilities for extracts of either show to be incorporated into the scene. So where and how do we vote? The link below will take you to the original article and poll, for you to cast your votes (you may vote for up to three programmes, so please choose very carefully!)

Click here to cast your vote!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will hit UK & Ireland screens on Wednesday 26th March, and US cinemas on Friday 4th April.
